2009 Dayton Area Lifeguard Competition Sure to be a Splash!
Dayton, Ohio, July 1, 2009 - With already 18 teams registered, the Dayton Area Chapter of American Red Cross is looking forward to this year’s Regional Lifeguard Competition. This year’s competition is to be held Sunday, July 19th, from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., at Cassell Hills Pool in Vandalia. This splashing event will include a Relay, Passive Drowning Rescue, Active Drowning Rescue, Spinal and First Aid competitions.
“The lifeguard competition has really brought the aquatic community together in sports safety.” and “It’s a lot of fun” says Matt Thomas, participant in the 2008 competition. The nationally recognized event, “was reinstated in 2005 and has grown substantially since,” says Chief Development Officer for the Dayton Area Chapter, Susan Sparks.
Participating facilities include Kettering Recreation Center, Vandalia Recreation Center, WPAFB, Fair Valley Country Club, Splash Moraine and the University of Dayton. “This will be the most participants we have ever had!” says Instructor/Aquatics Supervisor, Nick Gill.
The deadline for registration is July 10, 2009. Each team must have at least 4 members and pay a registration fee of $25.00.
