Dayton Area Red Cross Workers Support Disaster Response on West Coast and In Midwest Flood Plain

DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Dayton, Ohio, July 1, 2008 More than a dozen volunteers and staff members from the Dayton Area Chapter of the American Red Cross have joined peers and fellow volunteers from across the country in providing assistance to families displaced by the wildfires in California and flooding throughout the Midwest. As the weather has calmed, don't forget that these relief efforts continue and hurricane season is just around the corner. The American Red Cross anticipates spending more than $15 million in relief efforts for the victims of spring flooding, fires and tornadoes across several states. From Kansas to West Virginia to California, the Red Cross is providing clean up supplies, maintaining dozens of shelters and distributing tens of thousands of meals.

"In addition to responding to house fires and other issues in our local communities, our staff and volunteers have been extremely active this spring and summer, helping fellow Americans impacted by a series of natural disasters," stated Tom Fodor, Dayton Area Chapter, CEO. "We are proud of the work they are doing and appreciate the financial support the "Disaster Relief Fund" has received from residents of the region. In order to continue responding to anyone with disaster-caused needs, we continue to need volunteers and the donation of financial resources.
